By David Walsh, Artist and ATG Tour Leader
Are you thinking about coming on the painting trip but have some fear about your ability and being compared with others?
I always say there is no such thing as good and bad paintings, but rather sincere and insincere paintings. If you put in a genuine effort without trying to be what you are not, the result will be interesting and most likely a surprise to yourself.
We are all in it together on these weeks and actually we all learn and help each other.
Some may have more technical ability, but I can, of course help with drawing composition, scale and colour mixing.
However, there is no right and wrong in that it is not formulaic. It is all about looking.
It is not a case of how do I paint a tree, but rather looking at how the tree is.
‘Those who work in a preconceived style, turning their backs on nature, miss the truth’, Cezanne. And we don’t do this.
These weeks are a real opportunity to really look and, as Hockney said, ‘the world is really very beautiful, but you have to really look’.
I am always available to talk through any questions, concerns and general clarification on any points you may have reservations about. My email and phone number are available through ATG.
